Designing the cover for Liddy Clark’s single Shot Down (Stand Up) was a deeply intentional process, aiming to capture both the song’s weight and resilience. As a Parkland native, Liddy’s personal connection to the Stoneman Douglas tragedy adds powerful depth, and the artwork needed to reflect that in a raw yet respectful way.
The lined notebook paper serves as more than just a background—it symbolizes the everyday school experience, a place where students should feel safe. The handwritten typography adds a personal, unfiltered touch, as if lifted directly from a kid’s notebook. Small details like a teddy bear, flowers, and taped notes evoke the makeshift memorials, while the “Never Again” sign connects to the powerful movement sparked by Parkland.
The stripped-down, monochromatic design avoids sensationalism, allowing the imagery to speak for itself as a call to remember, reflect, and take action.
“Your work is absolutely fantastic!”
